Chinstrap penguin (Pygoscelis antarcticus) Highway, Baily Head Antarctica
Baily Head, a prominent headland found on Deception Island, is home to a large chinstrap penguin (Pygoscelis antarcticus) colony estimated at over 100,000 nesting pairs. The penguins make their nests up high, where rocks are plentiful. Every day, the penguins must go to sea and bring back food for their hungry chicks. With their great numbers, a Chinstrap highway forms, with penguins traveling in both directions. Baily Head, Deception Island, Antarctica
