Walrus on ice near Kvitoya Ice Cap
It was a cold and blustery day on the northern, easternmost island in the Svalbard archipelago. The zodiacs launched, the winds increased and the ice blocks tightened their grip. Just before we were to abort, I was able to capture these two walruses on the broken ice in front of the Kvitoya, also known as White Island, ice cap. We were the first and only ship to make it there this season due to the heavy ice pushed from the north pole around Svalbard this summer.
