Dramatic sunrise over Mount Fitzroy. Laguna de Los Tres, Patagonia
To create this image I waited for the edge of a perfect storm. For the better part of 15 days I stayed at the Poincenot basecamp waiting, only returning to El Chalten twice for provisions and a respite from bad weather. Six times I climbed the 400 meters at 4:30am in hopes of capturing the light. As with many high altitude destinations, the weather visible from basecamp is not predictive of the actual conditions atop the climb. Persisting through the first five climbs paid off, however. On the sixth attempt, after sitting out an intense 48 hour long rainstorm with 60mph winds the conditions came together allowing me to create this image.
